Grover — Head of Marketing of Sei
Grover: Sei originated from the need for a blockchain that supports crypto apps with a web2-like user experience while maintaining crypto benefits like self-custody and decentralization. Developed by a Bay Area-based team with tech industry experience, Sei focuses on delivering the fastest, most accessible blockchain infrastructure to advance the crypto space.
Grover: After engaging with developers post-launch, the Sei team recognized the significant EVM eco and incorporated get into Sei’s core to support EVM compatibility. Sei V2, now code-complete and live on devnet, introduces optimistic parallelization and SeiDB among other upgrades, aiming to optimize blockchain performance.
Grover: Imagine a single vending machine serving a long line of people waiting for various drinks, compared to having multiple vending machines, each dedicated to a different drink. The latter scenario, much like Sei’s ‘parallelized EVM’, drastically reduces waiting time by serving multiple customers simultaneously, showcasing a more efficient and time-saving approach. This ‘optimistic parallelization’ allows transactions that interact with different parts of the blockchain’s state to occur at the same time, rather than one after another. It assumes all transactions are parallelizable by default, a technique known as optimistic concurrency control. This methodology significantly enhances performance by cutting down the processing time for transactions. In Sei V2, coupled with the twin turbo consensus, it achieves the fastest block finality for any blockchain, reducing it to just 300ms. This rapid processing not only speeds up transactions but also ensures a smoother and more responsive user experience. The integration of the EVM with Sei’s infrastructure allows developers to leverage this enhanced speed and efficiency for Ethereum-compatible applications, paving the way for a wide array of high-performance, real-time applications on the blockchain.
Grover: Sei V2 goes beyond speed, offering a dual ution environment with Wasm and EVM integration, providing developers with versatile tools for diverse applications. It introduces SeiDB, an innovation addressing state bloat, ensuring optimal performance as the chain scales. The twin turbo consensus, a refined tendermint mechanism, underscores the platform’s reliability and robustness. These enhancements, combined with rigorous testing and community-driven development since August 2023, position Sei V2 not just as a faster solution but a more comprehensive, reliable, and future-ready blockchain infrastructure.
Grover: With grassroots development already thriving on Sei, V2’s devnet has showcased impressive benchmarks, promising a testnet in the coming months and a mainnet launch in H1 2024. Teams can get involved by exploring the active Sei eco, with opportunities for diverse projects from NFTs to DeFi and more.
