On May 28, CNBC reported that Square, a division of Block, launched a Bitcoin real-time payment pilot at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, where attendees can purchase merchandise through the Lightning Network, which is based on an upgrade of the "Bitcoin automatic exchange" system and is expected to be fully open to eligible merchants in 2026. In the pop-up shop outside the Bitcoin 2025 conference, attendees are scanning QR codes to buy T-shirts, sweatshirts and other merchandise with bitcoin in seconds, and the Lightning Network payment system is far faster than traditional blockchain settlement methods, and Square's "automatic bitcoin exchange" feature launched last year has reached more than 1,000 merchants.
