Powell: The 50 basis point rate cut did not receive widespread support.

On September 18, Fed Chairman Powell stated that there was not widespread support for a larger rate cut of 50 basis points at this week's meeting, following a 25 basis point cut by the Fed. "There is no broad support today for a 50 basis point cut," Powell told reporters at a press conference. "You know... over the past five years, we have made very large rate increases and cuts, which typically happens when policies are clearly misaligned and need to be quickly adjusted to a new level."
