From Dream to Reality: The New Era of Fans Jointly Purchasing NBA Teams
In the winter of 2007, I had the privilege of watching several games of the Supersonics during a business trip to Seattle. At that time, fans were fervently calling for the team to stay. However, their efforts ultimately failed to prevent the team's relocation. The team was later renamed the Oklahoma City Thunder, and although it has had some success in its new city, it remains a painful memory that Seattle fans find hard to erase.
However, with the development of Web3 technology, similar situations may not happen again. A group of basketball-loving fans has formed The Krause House DAO, with the ultimate goal of purchasing an NBA team. While this idea may sound a bit crazy, it actually reflects the rise of fan power in the Web3 era.
For a long time, fans have been one of the key forces in the development of professional sports, but their voices are often ignored when it comes to major decisions. This is mainly due to the lack of effective large-scale coordination and communication mechanisms. The emergence of Web3 technology has changed this situation, providing fans with the possibility of collective ownership and collaboration.
The Krause House DAO has devised an ambitious four-step plan: first, establish a strong community and governance mechanism; then, create revenue through community collaboration; subsequently, purchase a minority stake in an NBA team; and the ultimate goal is to gain control of the team.
Currently, The Krause House has attracted nearly 2,000 members to its Discord community. Here, fans can not only chat about basketball and esports but also learn about Web3. The community plans to carry out a variety of activities, such as AMA sessions with NBA-related individuals, organizing competitive gaming tournaments, launching Web3 educational projects, and participating in charitable activities.
For members with specific skills, participating in contributions can not only lead to friendships and personal growth but may also result in tangible rewards.
The idea of fans independently managing NBA teams may sound like a distant dream, but with advancements in technology and the development of communities, this dream is gradually becoming a reality. The establishment of the Krause House DAO marks the potential arrival of a new era in fan participation in professional sports management.
