MetaMask, developed by ConsenSys and one of the most well-known wallet applications in the crypto world for years, will now allow account creation through Apple and Google. With the newly introduced social login feature, wallet creation, backup, and recovery processes can be done using Google/Apple accounts.
Keywords will be generated in the background
As is known, in personal custody wallets like MetaMask, the responsibility lies entirely with the user. In the case of losing the key phrases, accessing the wallet becomes impossible.
In fact, a similar situation will continue now, but creating a wallet and other processes will become easier. There will be no long old processes. With the new feature, keywords will be generated in the background. The user can obtain these keywords if they wish. However, in addition to the keywords, the user will set a password for themselves and will use this password when logging in with their social account.
In the description of MetaMask, a warning was also made stating that in the event of losing this social login password, access to the account will also not be possible.
Neither MetaMask nor Google or Apple will have access to these keywords alone.
Adaptation may increase
Although personal custody wallets have simplified transactions in recent years, the vast majority are still struggling to adapt to the crypto world. The simplification of transactions may lead other "self-custodial" or personal custody wallets to take similar steps. This situation could enable millions of people to easily enter the crypto world.
