#Altcoin Market Rebound# The latest status of the hack attack targeting Ethereum, Solana, and other altcoin chains has been revealed!
The process that began with the hacking of a developer was navigated with almost zero loss.
Charles Guillemet, the CTO of Ledger, recently made a new statement about the NPM attack targeting a popular software that has been downloaded over 1 billion times.
Guillemet stated that the attack was unsuccessful and that "almost no victims were affected." He expressed that the attack began with a phishing email sent from a fake npm support domain (phishing), and said that with this method, the attackers stole developer credentials and published malicious package updates.
Malicious code attempted to interfere with transactions on Ethereum, Solana, and other chains by targeting web cryptocurrency activities. Specifically, it aimed to seize user funds by directly altering wallet addresses in network responses. However, mistakes made by the attackers led to crashes in the CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous delivery) processes, causing the attack to be detected early and its impact to remain limited.
Guillemet warned that assets held in software wallets and exchanges are at great risk:
If your funds are sitting in a software wallet or on an exchange, you can lose everything with just one line of code. Supply chain attacks continue to be a powerful method of spreading malware.
The Ledger CTO stated that hardware wallets are more secure against such threats, emphasizing that security features like Clear Signing and Transaction Checks show suspicious activities to the user.
