Mining Crypto in Chad: My Wild Frontier Experience
I've been digging deep into the crypto mining scene in Chad since 2024, and let me tell you - it's like the Wild West out here, but with way more potential than people realize.
Yeah, crypto mining is technically legal here. The government hasn't banned it outright, which is already better than some supposedly "progressive" nations. But don't get too excited - there's no real framework supporting it either. It's this legal gray zone where they don't stop you, but they sure as hell don't help you either.
When I first set up my operation near N'Djamena, the local officials looked at my equipment like I was building a spaceship. One actually asked if I was "making fake money" - I almost died laughing! The real challenge isn't legality - it's the infrastructure, or complete lack thereof.
Power cuts happen DAILY. Sometimes I'm running my rigs off generators for 72 hours straight. The electricity costs are destroying my margins, and don't get me started on internet connectivity. When it rains? Forget about it. My mining operation goes offline faster than politicians' promises after election day.
What really pisses me off is seeing places like Kazakhstan rolling out the red carpet for miners while we struggle for basic resources. Their government actually GETS IT, while ours is still trying to figure out what blockchain means.
The potential here is insane though. Chad has untapped solar capacity that could power mining operations at a fraction of current costs. I've been talking with some local entrepreneurs about a solar-powered mining farm, but getting funding is another nightmare altogether. No one wants to invest in a country where the regulatory situation could change overnight.
Despite everything, I'm still bullish on Chad becoming a crypto mining hub by 2028-2029. The global market needs alternatives to the traditional mining centers, especially with all the ESG concerns. If we can sort out the renewable energy angle, we could actually leapfrog countries that are currently ahead of us.
For anyone considering mining in Chad - bring patience, backup generators, and good relationships with customs officials. Your equipment WILL get stuck at the border for mysterious "inspection fees." Trust me, I've paid enough of those to buy another ASIC miner.
The legal freedom is great, but freedom without infrastructure is just permission to struggle differently.
