Last Friday, I made a nerve-wracking decision: to transfer all of my assets accumulated over two years on Ethereum to the Somnia network. This asset, worth $32,000, is the result of my hard work, and I couldn't help but worry about the risks that might occur during the transfer. However, in hindsight, this may have been one of the wisest choices I made this year.
The Somnia network not only ensures the secure transfer of my assets but also significantly reduces transaction costs by about 95%. Even more delightfully, the price of the SOMI token remains stable at $0.78, which has actually slightly improved my overall returns.
The entire cross-chain process was surprisingly smooth. I chose to use the LayerZero cross-chain bridge, which has a clean and intuitive interface and is very easy to operate. First, I needed to connect my MetaMask wallet to the Somnia network, which was quite simple; I just followed the instructions in the official documentation to add the corresponding RPC in the wallet. Then, I started transferring assets, including 15 ETH, some stablecoins, and dozens of ERC-20 tokens.
What surprised me the most was the low cost of cross-chain transfers. Transferring 15 ETH from Ethereum to Somnia only cost a Gas fee of 12 dollars, which is even difficult to accomplish for a regular transaction within the Ethereum network.
The most nerve-wracking part of the cross-chain process is waiting for confirmation. The Ethereum side requires a 15-minute confirmation time, but once the funds arrive in the Somnia account, they can be used immediately. To test the new environment, I tried exchanging some ETH for other tokens on QuickSwap, experiencing the efficiency and low cost of the Somnia network.
This cross-chain experience not only gave me a deeper understanding of emerging blockchain networks, but also made me realize that blockchain technology is continuously advancing, providing users with more convenience and opportunities. Although there are always risks in taking chances, sometimes being bold enough to try new things can lead to unexpected gains, provided that adequate research and careful operation are conducted.

The ultimate version of passive income from lying flat.
