Release date set for 2026 for the Bitcoin movie 'Killing Satoshi' starring Pete Davidson
Hollywood superstar Pete Davidson is expected to star in a Bitcoin thriller titled “Killing Satoshi.” The film, which focuses on the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, aims to bring his life and existence, which has been the subject of heated debates, to the big screen.
In addition to Pete Davidson, Doug Liman, another famous Hollywood star, has been recruited to direct the movie.
According to reports, the film is a conspiracy thriller that aims to unravel one of the most enduring mysteries of the 21st century: the secret identity of Satoshi Nakamoto and why the answer has become a threat to the global power structure.
Like Davidson, Oscar winner Casey Affleck is also expected to star in the film, although the characters of both remain a secret for the time being.
Bitcoin Thriller will feature Pete Davidson
“Killing Satoshi” is expected to also mark the return of Ryan Kavanaugh, the media head who financed several films in the industry before his studio went bankrupt in 2015. Kavanaugh has become a cryptocurrency advocate in recent years and is producing the film alongside Lawrence Grey and Shane Valdez.
Jared Underwood from Aperture Media will be the executive producer of the Bitcoin movie. The film was originally planned and developed by Kavanaugh and is being financed through his production company, Proxima, in partnership with Aperture Media Partners.
Filming is scheduled to begin in October in London, and producers have set 2026 as a possible release date. The film also arrives at a time when Davidson recently announced that he and his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, are expecting their first child.
The film, which is expected to showcase the creation of Bitcoin in 2009, is also set to present how the asset has shaken the foundations of global finance. Bitcoin represents freedom for its advocates, who, to some extent, see Satoshi Nakamoto as a hero who has empowered people to regain control of their money. Meanwhile, governments and large corporations view its creation as a threat.
Producers anticipate an action-packed drama
According to most Bitcoin analysts, Satoshi Nakamoto mined more than 1 million Bitcoins between 2009 and 2010, which would comfortably place him among the 20 richest people in the world, with the current stash of Bitcoin valued at 64 billion dollars.
It remains a mystery to this day that none of the wallets attributed to Nakamoto have ever moved the tokens contained in them, apart from the test transactions made in the beginning. This means that the fortune remains intact.
“I love David versus Goliath stories. 'Killing Satoshi' follows unlikely antiheroes facing the most powerful people on the planet in an epic battle that impacts the core of what money is and who controls it,” Liman said. “I am very excited to collaborate again with Casey Affleck alongside the incredible Pete Davidson.”
“This is not just a movie about Bitcoin and its elusive and mysterious origins, but really about what it represents. We see this movie in the same way we viewed 'The Social Network' and its examination of Facebook. This should equally be a look into the world of what Bitcoin really is,” Kavanaugh added.
According to the producers, the film is expected to weave together political intrigue, high-tech espionage, and a race against crime as forces from around the world vie for control.
