Don't remind me again today

Have you heard of UTC, right? That time zone that appears in almost all announcements of launches, presales, or airdrops in the crypto world, like "Available at 12:00 PM UTC." And maybe you once thought that meant noon, right at the time in your country. Well, you probably were surprised to arrive too late or too early. 😅

So, what exactly is UTC? Well, UTC stands for Coordinated Universal Time ( or Coordinated Universal Time). Think of it as the "central clock" of the world, which will serve for everything else to synchronize. Unlike other times, it does not change with seasons or daylight savings, it always remains true and constant.

Now, if you are wondering how to find out what time UTC is in your country, each place has its time difference with respect to this "center". For example, for Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Panama it is UTC-5, while Mexico (CDMX) is UTC-6. If you are in Venezuela, it would be UTC-4, Argentina and Chile are UTC-3, and for those enjoying summer in Spain, it would be UTC+2. So far so easy, right?

Let's land it with a practical example: imagine a token will be launched at 8:00 AM UTC, what time will that be in your country? In Colombia it will be 3:00 AM, Venezuela 4:00 AM, Argentina 5:00 AM, and Spain 10:00 AM. So don't get distracted by the times!

Are you looking to convert UTC time to your local time? Here are a couple of tricks. You can search on Google for something like "8:00 AM UTC in Colombia" and voilà, you'll have the answer. There are also world clock apps and Telegram bots like @TimeZoneBot that can do the job for you. And of course, anyone who isn't keen on doing basic arithmetic can simply subtract or add the number of hours according to their UTC difference to arrive at the correct time.

Finally, why is it so important to master this in the crypto ecosystem? Well, because a small oversight with the timings can mean missing out on a launch event or airdrop, buying when the price has already risen significantly, or selling in a hurry. Timeliness is crucial, and accurately calculating the time difference could be the difference between seizing a unique opportunity or letting it slip away.

When you see that something is scheduled for a certain UTC time, do not assume it will be that way on your local clock. Calculate in advance and be ready to act at the right moment. A simple scheduling error could cost more than you imagine!
