The American dollar: global power coin
The US dollar, represented by the symbol $ or the abbreviation USD, is not only the official currency of the United States and its territories, but it has also become the true king of global finance. I am fascinated by how this currency has managed to infiltrate virtually every corner of the planet, imposing its hegemony in international transactions.
As the main global reserve currency, the dollar has achieved something that no other currency has: becoming the official currency of several foreign countries and functioning as de facto currency in many others. These countries have essentially renounced their monetary sovereignty, using US dollars for their daily transactions or pegging their own currencies to the value of the dollar.
The Federal Reserve System controls this powerful economic tool, acting as the nation's central bank and managing the issuance of dollars. But who really controls the Federal Reserve? This concentration of monetary power in the hands of a few seems concerning to me, especially considering its global impact.
From my perspective, this domination of the dollar represents both the strength and the weakness of the current global financial system - a system that perpetuates dependencies and imbalances that could eventually become unsustainable.
