The longest shutdown is expected to end. Where is the U.S. Senate now?
On November 10, Jin Shi Data reported that after U.S. Senate Majority Leader and Republican Mitch McConnell announced a potential agreement to end the government shutdown, the Senate Appropriations Committee quickly released three bills aimed at ending the shutdown. The current disclosed process shows that the Senate is expected to first vote on advancing the temporary funding resolution passed by the House of Representatives (which has failed to advance in the Senate 14 times previously); it will then amend it to include full-year funding measures and a longer extension of government funding. The plan also includes an agreement to vote on the healthcare policy sought by the Democrats on the scheduled date. The Senate is expected to vote on the temporary funding measures as early as the morning of the 10th Beijing time. The measure needs 60 votes to advance, and Republicans currently hold 53 seats in the Senate. Senate Democrats are scheduled to hold a core members meeting at 6 a.m. Beijing time on the 10th to discuss proposals related to ending the government 'shutdown.' The outcome of this meeting is expected to directly affect whether the government shutdown will end. According to ABC, the short-term funding bill is likely to have enough support from Democratic senators.
