German Chancellor: Transatlantic relations have changed; Europe needs to strengthen its independence

On February 2nd, local time, German Chancellor Merz delivered a speech to political and business leaders. When discussing relations with the United States, he straightforwardly stated that transatlantic relations have already changed. Dwelling on nostalgia and reminiscing about the good old days does not help Europe move forward. Merz also proposed that Europe needs to enhance its independence in technology and politics, especially by reducing dependence on the world’s largest economy. He also emphasized that if parties on the international stage do not adhere to existing agreements, Europe will respond accordingly. (CCTV News)
