Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino downplayed the size of its potential funding round, clarifying that the previously reported target of $15 billion to $20 billion was a "misunderstanding" and only a maximum estimate. The stablecoin issuer had previously faced investor opposition over its $50 billion valuation goal, and now may only be able to raise $5 billion. Ardoino emphasized Tether's profitability, noting that the company's profit last year was approximately $10 billion, and defended its high valuation by comparing it to loss-making AI companies. He pointed out that the company has garnered widespread investor attention and highlighted the momentum brought by the new US stablecoin legislation and compliant US token issuance.
