Speaking of traditional Chinese medicine making big money, let me tell you a funny story I encountered today. This noon, I met up with an older brother for some beers (Xinjiang lamb skewers are really delicious), and in the afternoon, I overheard a couple in their fifties bragging. Both of them were smoking—not ordinary cigarettes, but moxa cigarettes, which are made from mugwort. The man was smoking and flicking the ash into his teacup, then casually drinking the tea. He said that this smoke must be inhaled into the lungs to vaporize and benefit the lungs; the ash in the tea can also soften blood vessels, and the body absorbs it. The woman was also smoking continuously, collecting the ash into a plastic bag afterward, saying she was sending it to her mother to make soup, which is made of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. She proudly claimed there were 30 kinds of herbs inside. The woman also said she is a Feng Shui master and can ascend to immortality, and she’s quite famous. I thought to myself, you’re really collecting all the metaphysics together. I had already finished drinking, and my nose wasn’t working well, but I could clearly smell the burning mugwort. I didn’t even need to check; it’s definitely harmful to health. Actually, in mainland China, among the elderly over 60, this kind of thing is very common. That’s why I say traditional Chinese medicine can make big money. I’ve come across companies that sell courses on traditional Chinese medicine, with annual revenues exceeding 1 billion yuan.
