Western Digital: Customers have inquired about supply in 2030, indicating strong demand and expectations for future production capacity. The company is actively planning and increasing investments to meet the anticipated market needs and ensure supply stability over the coming years.

Western Digital Chief Financial Officer Kris Sennesael stated in an interview, “The perception that HDDs are a seasonal, cyclical industry” is outdated. The company is currently focusing on supplying ultra-large capacity HDDs to AI hyperscale cloud service providers. These customers’ purchasing behaviors are no longer characterized by seasonality or fluctuations with economic cycles; instead, the industry is now experiencing a flywheel effect, with increased data usage driving more data creation, which in turn leads to greater storage needs. Since Western Digital’s customer base now consists of only a few large-scale enterprises, the company has shifted its business model to prioritize collaboration and long-term procurement agreements. Sennesael pointed out that Western Digital’s capacity for 2026 has already been fully booked, with two contracts extending into 2027 and one into 2028. “We are also continuously discussing with other customers the possibility of extending contracts to 2028 or 2029, and some are even beginning to inquire about 2030.
