The ultimate fate of L2 might be "invisible existence"
When infrastructure becomes sufficiently mature, people often don't perceive it. TCP/IP is not discussed by the general public, but the internet cannot do without it. The same may be true for L2 in the future.
Ideally, users only see the app and don't care about the chain. Wallets automatically select the optimal L2 to execute transactions, handling settlement and data submission in the background. L2 becomes the default layer, rather than an option.
This means the competition will shift toward: developer experience, SDK tools, account abstraction, and privacy support.
Who can make it easier for developers to build applications will attract more projects to land. Once an ecosystem forms a flywheel, new entrants will find it very difficult to shake it.
Historically, once technical standards are established, the winner-takes-all effect is obvious. L2 may also evolve into a pattern of "head concentration with a long tail surviving."
So don't just focus on TVL rankings; the true moat is the developer and application ecosystem.
In one sentence: The highest realm of L2 is when users don't feel its presence.
