Abstract generation in progress

Duke Energy has opened a 100-megawatt battery storage facility in Knightdale, NC, which is nearly half of its total battery storage in the state so far. The company is relying on these facilities to help meet its state-mandated goal of being carbon neutral by 2050 by making better use of renewable energy sources like solar. Duke Energy plans to expand its battery storage capabilities significantly, aiming for 5 gigawatts by 2034, which would require building approximately 56 more facilities of similar scale.
