Iran's Expert Assembly office building in Qom has been attacked. It is understood that although the Expert Assembly headquarters is located in Tehran, many Expert Assembly members live in Qom. The Iranian Expert Assembly is the highest authority responsible for electing, overseeing, and removing Iran's Supreme Leader. Expert Assembly elections are held every 8 years, with members elected by voters from among religious jurists. The Iranian Constitution stipulates that in the event of the Supreme Leader's death, resignation, or removal, the Expert Assembly should promptly elect a new Supreme Leader.
