The meningitis outbreak in Kent, UK, is worsening, with five new cases reported locally. The total number of confirmed and suspected cases has risen to 20, including two deaths, both students.

BBC reports that Health Secretary Wes Streeting stated that this outbreak has resulted in the deaths of one university student and one secondary school student, which is unprecedented.

Epidemiological investigations by local health authorities found that some affected individuals visited a nightclub called Club Chemistry between March 5 and 7. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told Parliament that health experts are actively tracing close contacts and urged anyone who visited the nightclub earlier this month to contact authorities and receive antibiotic treatment.

The authorities are currently unable to confirm the initial source of the infection.
