Data shows: tanker booking wave surges, freight rates skyrocket to record highs

Seasure Shipbroking, a ship brokerage company, reports that approximately 24 tankers signed time charter agreements last week, the highest since May 2020. The benchmark rate for one-year supertankers has risen to a record $176,250 per day. In the spot market, the benchmark earnings for VLCCs on the Middle East to China route reached $476,754 per day. A survey indicates that the Middle East region will face an oversupply of shipping capacity in the next month, with vessel capacity exceeding demand by 15%.
