The Ministry of Ecology and Environment held the 2026 Solid Waste and New Pollutants Management Work Conference in Chengdu, Sichuan Province on March 18. The meeting summarized the achievements of 2025 and the 14th Five-Year Plan, planned the 15th Five-Year Plan, and outlined key tasks for 2026. The conference called for accelerating the development of the 15th Five-Year Plan for solid waste pollution prevention and control, and formulating related documents to strengthen the coordinated management of new pollutants, ensuring detailed implementation of the relevant provisions of the Ecological and Environmental Protection Law. It emphasized promoting comprehensive solid waste management actions, focusing on special rectification campaigns against illegal dumping and disposal of solid waste, and advancing targeted remediation of environmental hazards related to heavy metals, phosphogypsum stockpiles, and landfill pollution risks. The construction of a nationwide hazardous waste supervision information system covering key regulatory units should be accelerated. The conference also stressed strengthening source control and deepening the management of new pollutants.
