South Korean President Lee Jae-myung stated on the 26th that continuous efforts are needed to engage in dialogue and cooperation with North Korea, building trust so that the Korean Peninsula can eventually achieve structural peace and stability. During his visit to the Blue House on the 26th, Lee emphasized that normalizing inter-Korean relations requires eliminating long-standing hostile sentiments, which cannot be achieved overnight through a groundbreaking measure. He stressed, “We should seriously reflect on whether the insults or threats we have directed at North Korea so far have contributed to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, as well as Korea’s national interests and security.” On the 25th, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, during his work report at the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, stated that North Korea views South Korea as a “total enemy, an eternal enemy.” North Korea has positioned inter-Korean relations as the most hostile state-to-state relationship, which remains the unchanging principle stance of the North.
