Press Bodies Condemn Assaults On Journalists In Khyber And Lower Dir
(MENAFN- Tribal News Network)

Journalistic organisations have strongly reacted to the recent incidents involving journalists in Lower Dir and Khyber district, demanding action against those responsible.
In Bara, Khyber district, a delegation from the Bara Press Club met with District Police Officer (DPO) Khyber Waqar Ahmed to discuss the alleged arrest of journalists by CTD personnel and the reported torture of senior journalist Qazi Rauf.
The journalists condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against the officials involved. The delegation made it clear that the boycott of police coverage would continue until action is taken against those responsible.

Later, DPO Khyber Waqar Ahmed visited the Bara Press Club and, during a meeting with journalists, expressed regret over the incident and offered an apology and sympathy. However, the journalists maintained that the boycott would continue until practical action is taken.
It is worth noting that a few days earlier, after covering a protest in Bara, journalist Qazi Rauf was travelling with fellow journalists when they were allegedly assaulted on the way.
Meanwhile, the District Press Club Wana in South Waziristan Lower also strongly condemned the alleged police violence against journalists in Bara, describing it as an attack on press freedom.
Press Club President Qismatullah Wazir stated that the mistreatment of journalists during the coverage of a protest demonstration was deeply regrettable and that those responsible should be held accountable.
On the other hand, a joint meeting of journalists was held at the Chakdara Press Club in Lower Dir, where participants strongly condemned the attack on senior journalist and Chairman of Chakdara Press Club, Muhammad Israr Khan.
The meeting demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack and announced protest demonstrations against threats and attacks on journalists.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, unknown individuals attacked Muhammad Israr Khan in the Shalam Baba area of Lower Dir, leaving him injured. Several political leaders and journalistic organisations have also condemned the incident and called for ensuring the safety and protection of journalists.
Leaders from various political parties have also condemned the attack on journalist Muhammad Israr and demanded action against those responsible.
