Traditional white light solutions require color conversion layers and filters, resulting in inherent light efficiency loss and reduced color purity. Sony’s true color RGB TV uses independent RGB LEDs as backlight sources, with the three primary colors emitted directly from the source, eliminating the need for color conversion. This architecture offers two key advantages: significantly improved color purity, narrower spectral bandwidth, and color performance that approaches professional reference monitors.
Three Core Technologies Building a Complete Solution
True Color Wide Gamut: Based on independent RGB backlight, Sony’s proprietary color management system performs real-time dynamic calibration of the three primary colors, maintaining accurate color coordinates across the full brightness range from low to high, completely avoiding the gamut shrinkage seen in traditional solutions at high brightness.
True Color Gray Scale Precision Control: Incorporates backlight scanning algorithms from high-end reference monitors into consumer TVs, achieving over 100,000 levels of gray scale fine division. By independently adjusting the current of the RGB light sources, dark scene details below 1 nit remain fully saturated and detailed.
True Color Active Wide Viewing Angle: Uses backlight algorithms to actively regulate light distribution at different viewing angles. Built-in angle sensing chips calculate the viewing angle in real-time, dynamically compensating for color shifts, keeping side-view color differences within the range imperceptible to the human eye.
Full-Chain Technology Collaboration
The core technology behind Sony’s true color RGB TV picture quality traces back to Sony’s BVM-HX3110 flagship reference monitor — a standard tool in Hollywood post-production. Sony has transplanted the color science and backlight control algorithms from professional monitors into consumer products, combined with data captured by CineAlta cameras, creating a complete “capture-production-display” RGB technology closed loop.
