What is Rugpull: Year of Self-Interest and Investment Destruction in the Cryptocurrency Market
In Buddhism, the five poisons (Desire, Anger, Ignorance, Pride, Doubt) are considered major obstacles on the path to enlightenment. Similarly, in the cryptocurrency market, these psychological factors are the biggest enemies of investors. If you don’t overcome them, you’ll find it difficult to survive until the market reaches its peak.
Greed - Fear of missing out and clinging to wrong decisions
Greed manifests as attachment, fear of loss, and fear of missing the peak. Many investors are obsessed with “entry points” and jump in too late, buying at the highest prices. Or when they have profits, they keep holding because they fear missing their target, thinking the market will soon turn, ultimately losing all gains. This is a taboo mistake during the early and middle stages of a bull market.
Anger - Rage after historical failures
Anger appears when investors incur losses. They become furious, criticize analysts, and turn away from the market by panic-selling and withdrawing all funds. This is a deadly trap in the early stage when the market is just beginning to grow. Anger causes them to miss the biggest opportunities.
Infatuation - Ignorance leading to blindness
Infatuation (Ignorance) is stupidity, unwillingness to learn, and failure to understand market mechanisms and trends. Many buy coins just because of rumors, without understanding the project. They are easily deceived, investing in scams, and ultimately losing all their capital.
Pride - Underestimating others creating blind spots
Pride manifests as dismissing others’ opinions, refusing to listen to reasonable analyses, and being 100% confident in oneself. Overconfident investors often fall into traps and suffer big losses.
What is Doubt: Concealed pride behind suspicion
Doubt (Suspicion + Pride) is a state where investors are both suspicious and arrogant. They doubt valid reasoning but are proud of their own views. This leads to two outcomes: either cutting losses early out of fear, or missing big opportunities due to hesitation. What is doubt if not a battle between false confidence and genuine skepticism?
To overcome the five poisons, investors need to develop discipline, keep learning, listen to experienced voices, and most importantly, control their emotions. Only when you can eliminate these psychological factors will you have the ability to survive until the market reaches its peak.
