Abstract generation in progress

Recently, GTOS (Container Terminal Operating System), known as the “Smart Central Brain” of container terminals, reached a key milestone in its development process—the Guangzhou Port Nansha GTOS R&D Center was officially launched, and the entire GTOS business IT integration team has moved into the Nansha terminal on-site office. This core R&D team, selected through the group’s open competition mechanism, has now firmly rooted itself at the front line of terminal operations, deeply integrating with the business team to carry out localized R&D innovation with a full-scenario, full-process, and all-element approach. The goal is to create an autonomous and controllable core system that aligns with Guangzhou Port’s operational characteristics.

An Autonomous and Controllable “Smart Central Brain”

The official launch of the R&D center marks a new phase where Guangzhou Port’s GTOS自主研发 (independent research and development) work enters full-scale, rapid advancement. This is a substantial breakthrough in the group’s key digital transformation projects, a critical practice in implementing the group’s “13366” development strategy and the “Big Hub, Big Channel, Big Network” strategic focus. It is also an important measure for the GTOS team to uphold the requirements of core technology自主可控 (independent and controllable) and to deepen efforts at the front line to solve practical challenges.

To develop a localized GTOS system suited to Guangzhou Port’s operational scenarios, the project team prepared extensively in advance: conducting in-depth research at major coastal hub ports across the country, undergoing multiple rounds of specialized validation, and finalizing the system construction plan and phased implementation path. Through the group’s open competition mechanism, a core R&D team proficient in both business and technology was assembled. Simultaneously, multiple rounds of technical training and comprehensive understanding of all business processes were carried out, along with detailed demand research across various terminal operations, laying a solid foundation for system development and implementation.

The establishment of the Nansha GTOS R&D Center creates a core base for the team to bridge the “last mile” between business and technology. The R&D team is directly embedded in the front line of terminal operations, immersed in all scenarios, processes, and elements of terminal work, enabling zero-distance integration between technological R&D and terminal production operations.

This “on-site office, on-site R&D” model has delivered three major efficiency improvements:

  • First, it enhances the entire chain of demand response, solution iteration, and problem resolution, ensuring the full implementation of business IT integration and providing core support for system R&D, testing, and full-terminal deployment.

  • Second, it offers a dedicated practical platform for team cohesion and skill honing through real-world combat.

  • Third, it cultivates a group of versatile digital backbone personnel who understand both terminal operations and technical R&D, creating a natural environment for growth.
