Senator Josh Hawley has called for a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) investigation into FICO’s credit score pricing, citing the company’s “monopoly” in the mortgage market and detrimental price increases. He alleges that FICO has leveraged its dominant position to impose extraordinary price hikes, with a 16-fold wholesale price increase over five years, ultimately burdening borrowers, especially first-time homebuyers. This move follows a previous similar request to the Department of Justice and comes amidst increased competition from VantageScore, which was recently permitted for use by government-sponsored enterprises.
