Google Pixel phones receive the March update: Gemini Assistant can directly help users call a ride and order takeout

IT House, March 4 — Google has added several new features to Pixel phones in its latest March update, including Gemini AI assistant capabilities that can perform tasks on behalf of users, such as grocery ordering or travel booking. This feature was first showcased at Samsung Unpacked last week and is now being rolled out to Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL.

With the new intelligent agent features of Gemini, you can have the assistant complete tasks within specified apps, including Uber and Grubhub. It runs in the background while you use your phone, and Google states you can supervise or interrupt the operation at any time. This feature will also be available on Samsung Galaxy S26 series, while similar functions for Apple’s Siri have been delayed for several months and are not yet available.

IT House notes that, in addition to the Gemini update, Google has upgraded the Circle to Search feature: simply circle content on the screen to search. Now, all Pixel 10 users can use this feature to split outfits, search for items, and even try virtual fitting rooms.

Google has also upgraded the Magic Cue feature, which proactively offers suggestions based on the scene in apps like messaging, email, weather, and calls. For example, if a friend asks for restaurant recommendations, Magic Cue will automatically suggest options based on their preferences. This feature will be available on some Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold models in select countries and languages. These devices will also gain a Comfort View mode to “reduce visual stimulation caused by high-brightness and highly saturated colors.”

Older Pixel phones will also receive new features:

  • Pixel 8 and later models will support a new desktop mode when connected to external displays;

  • Pixel 7 and newer models will be able to use the “At-a-Glance” widget to view commute departure times, delay information, and alternative routes;

  • Pixel 6 and later models will add support for Now Playing song recognition, AI-customized app icons, and the ability to view sports scores and stock market updates on the home or lock screen.
