Hungarian Foreign Minister Suspected of Eavesdropping, Orban Orders Immediate Investigation

On the 23rd local time, Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán stated on social media that wiretapping of government officials is a serious attack on Hungary. He has instructed the Minister of Justice to immediately investigate information suggesting that Foreign Minister Szijjártó may have been wiretapped. According to Hungarian sources, the country’s media received an email with an attached recording. The recording appears to show a Hungarian journalist possibly providing Foreign Minister Szijjártó’s phone number to a foreign intelligence agency, raising concerns that his phone may have been wiretapped.
