The U.S. automotive safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, announced on Friday that it has closed a defect petition involving approximately 2.26 million Tesla vehicles after finding no evidence of safety-related defects.

A petition from March 2023 claimed that Tesla vehicles might increase the risk of pedal misapplication due to different control methods like single-pedal driving, potentially leading to unintended acceleration.

The NHTSA stated that it found no evidence of defects or safety risks and cited a very small number of related incidents and data, which indicated that the vehicles’ responses were as expected.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
