Adam Tuz: Only by building an army can the European defense issues be resolved

Abstract generation in progress

We are conducting an experiment. Defense spending in Europe is increasing, but not every country’s spending is growing at the same rate.

Germany and Poland are ramping up rearmament aggressively; whether in absolute defense expenditures or as a share of GDP, both are rising. France, Italy, and Spain either have not recognized the urgency or cannot afford it. The result is the emergence of a new imbalance.

Based on current trends, by 2029, Germany’s defense spending will be about twice that of France. “variable geometry” is a popular slogan of the moment. But can Europe accept this kind of division?
