U.S. media reports that the U.S. is considering redirecting weapons aid to Ukraine toward the Middle East

People’s Financial News, March 26 - The Washington Post reported on the 26th, citing multiple sources, that as the United States consumes a large amount of ammunition in its conflict with Iran, the U.S. Department of Defense is considering transferring weapons originally intended for Ukraine to the Middle East. The report stated: “Although the Department of Defense has not made a final decision regarding the transfer of weapons, this change highlights the increasingly difficult trade-offs the U.S. must make between different demands to sustain the war with Iran.” Sources told the media that the weapons the U.S. might transfer include air defense intercept missiles, which Ukraine ordered through a NATO program. The U.S. military had previously allocated such weapons from Europe and East Asia to the Middle East. The report cited two European diplomats as saying that since the U.S. initiated military actions against Iran, the rapid consumption of U.S. ammunition has raised concerns among European countries that their orders may be affected, which could, in turn, impact the delivery of weapons to Ukraine. The report also cited Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Oksana Markarova as saying that Ukraine continues to inform its partners about its needs, including air defense requirements, but also understands that there are “significant uncertainties” in the war.
