【Caixin.com】 The 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit will be held in China. On March 25, Singapore’s former foreign minister, Yeo Rong Wen, said at the 2026 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference that zero-sum games are spreading to many parts of the world, and he hopes that as the host, China will set an optimistic and uplifting tone and bring a positive-sum way of thinking.

In 2001 and 2014, China hosted APEC summits in Shanghai and Beijing, respectively. Yeo Rong Wen specifically mentioned that when the 2001 Shanghai APEC summit was held, when U.S. government officials first came to attend, the atmosphere was tense. After the dialogue began, the atmosphere gradually eased. Today, the Asia-Pacific region is once again falling into a tense atmosphere, and once again it is up to the Chinese summit to play a role.
