Uber partners with NVIDIA to expand autonomous taxi fleets worldwide
Uber Technologies shares rose 3.32% in premarket trading. Earlier, the company partnered with Nvidia to plan the launch of software-driven autonomous taxi service in the first half of 2027, with an expansion to 28 cities worldwide by 2028. The plan will leverage Nvidia’s Level 4 autonomous driving platform, marking an important step forward for Uber in its efforts to go beyond its traditional ride-hailing model.
The rollout will be supported by Nvidia’s autonomous vehicle technology stack, combining AI models, simulation, and high-performance computing. Uber said the technology will be integrated into its platform, enabling autonomous vehicles to operate together with human drivers over time.
This move is one of a series of actions Uber has taken recently to expand its autonomous driving strategy. Earlier this month, the company partnered with Motional to launch an autonomous taxi service in Las Vegas, and it also announced cooperation with Wayve and Nissan, as well as a separate strategic partnership with Zoox. The agreement with Nvidia adds another layer, reinforcing Uber’s approach of building a broad network of partners rather than relying on a single vendor to expand the scale of its autonomous taxi fleet.
