A news report from Nikkei has caused a stir: Sony Bank is planning to issue a US dollar stablecoin.

This matter is not without reason. Sony's commercial bank has recently submitted an application to the United States to obtain a national banking license through its subsidiary Connectia Trust. They are targeting the new regulations under the GENIUS Act, which require stablecoins to be fully backed 1:1 by cash or bonds, with monthly public reserve proof and annual audits.

Sounds like strict regulation? But Sony clearly isn't afraid. What they want is this "compliance ticket."

Interestingly, Sony's ambitions go beyond just issuing coins. They already have two trump cards in hand: one is their own blockchain infrastructure Soneium, and the other is the Web3 subsidiary BlockBloom. These two tools, combined, can directly connect the PlayStation gaming platform, Sony Music's music landscape, and Sony Pictures' film and television resources.

In simple terms, this is a payment network that covers the entire entertainment industry chain. Player recharges, musician revenue sharing, film and television copyright settlements – in the future, this digital currency system may be used for all of these.

Everyone knows the pain points of cross-border settlement, but there are not many traditional giants that truly dare to build the infrastructure. Sony has taken a real step this time.
