PANews reported on May 26 that the organizers of the European Ethereum Conference (EthCC) announced that the event, taking place in Cannes from June 30 to July 3, will implement film festival-level security measures. Cometh CEO Jerome de Tychey stated that attendees, including Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, will receive the same level of protection as Tom Cruise during the Cannes Film Festival. Local authorities will increase police presence and activate over 500 surveillance cameras throughout the city. This decision stems from the recent frequent kidnapping cases in the cryptocurrency sector in France. Ari Redbord, the policy director of TRM Labs, pointed out that the appreciation of cryptocurrencies and regulatory changes in Europe have made France a target for criminal gangs. He suggested that practitioners reduce their exposure on social media and consider hiring security personnel. The organizers of EthCC refused to disclose specific security plans but confirmed that government officials, regulatory agencies, and billionaires will be attending.
