A serious vulnerability in Libbitcoin puts 120,000 Bitcoin private keys at risk of being compromised.

OneKey has revealed a serious vulnerability that could expose around 120,000 Bitcoin private keys to attack. This flaw originates from Libbitcoin Explorer (bx) version 3.x, which uses the Mersenne Twister-32 algorithm and system time as seed. Due to the seed space having only 2³² possibilities, hackers can predict private keys quite easily.

Wallets using the affected library are at high risk, including Trust Wallet Extension versions 0.0.172–0.0.183, Trust Wallet Core ≤3.1.1, and many other wallets based on Libbitcoin. This incident highlights the importance of using cryptographically secure random number generators in blockchain applications to prevent the creation of predictable keys and protect user assets.
