Putin told reporters: “Based on the latest statement from the U.S. side, I understand that the U.S. President has decided to cancel or postpone this meeting. Judging from the wording, it is more likely to be a postponement of talks.” Putin specifically pointed out that holding the Russia-U.S. Budapest Summit hastily without sufficient preparation would constitute a major mistake. “Such high-level meetings must be meticulously prepared. Whether for myself or for the U.S. President, treating the summit lightly or failing to achieve expected results would be a mistake.”
