Hazardous substances in groundwater near US military bases in Japan exceed standards by 300 times
According to Japanese media reports on October 1st, a water quality survey in Hiroshima County, Hiroshima City, Japan, since December last year showed serious pollution in multiple water bodies near the local US ammunition depot. Among them, the content of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances in one groundwater exceeded the standard by 300 times. After repeatedly denying it, the US military stationed there admitted in September that it had been using foam fire extinguishers containing perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances for 19 years. On September 30th, the Hiroshima City Government requested an investigation into the US military base and the results should be made public.
