"BTC Jesus" Roger Ver seeks to dismiss his tax evasion charges on the grounds of government overreach.
BlockBeats news, on December 4th, according to foxbusiness, Roger Ver, known as ‘BTC Jesus’, hopes to use ‘government overreach’ as a reason to dismiss his tax evasion charges, as part of fulfilling Trump’s promise to end stringent encryption regulation. In late April this year, Roger Ver, an early BTC investor, was accused by the US Department of Justice of email fraud, tax evasion, and submitting false tax returns, and was arrested in Spain on US criminal charges. The US is seeking to extradite Roger Ver to stand trial in the US. It is reported that Roger Ver originally resided in Santa Clara, California, and owned two companies, MemoryDealers.com Inc. and Agilestar.com Inc., selling computers and networking equipment. Starting from 2011, Roger Ver began acquiring BTC for himself and his companies, and he personally dedicated himself to promoting BTC, even earning the nickname ‘BTC Jesus’. On February 4, 2014, Roger Ver renounced his US citizenship, and after moving abroad, US law required Roger Ver to file tax returns and report capital gains from the sale of assets (including BTC) worldwide, and was required to pay taxes on these capital gains. The Department of Justice believes that Roger Ver caused at least $48 million in losses to the IRS.
