Golden Finance reports that on March 27, according to Russian sources on the 26th, Vyacheslav Nikonov, head of the Russian delegation and First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, stated that Russian and American lawmakers held their first meeting in Washington in recent years. “The current situation is better than I expected.” Nikonov said that restoring parliamentary contacts is possible, and the Russian delegation will continue to advance their work as planned. On the same day, Kremlin spokesperson Peskov confirmed that Russian lawmakers had received instructions from President Putin before visiting the U.S. and would report the results of the talks to the president. It is reported that contacts between Russian and U.S. parliaments were interrupted in 2014 after Western sanctions were imposed on Russia.
