Two Oil Tankers Attacked Off Basra

Tankers Catch Fire
Initial reports indicate that two foreign oil tankers were targeted, and at least one of the ships caught fire after being hit. Iraqi port authorities and rescue teams responded to the scene, and it was reported that more than 37 crew members were rescued. Search efforts continue for missing personnel.
The attack took place south of Basra, in the northern Gulf region between Iraq and Kuwait, and some reports suggest the ships were struck by rockets or explosive-laden drones.

The incident occurs amid rapidly escalating military tensions between the US-Israel and Iran. Allegations in recent weeks that Iranian-linked forces have targeted commercial vessels and energy infrastructure in the Gulf pose a serious risk to international maritime transport.
According to experts, the attacks have particularly heightened security concerns around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical point for global oil trade. In recent days alone, numerous commercial vessels have been damaged in the region, and some tanker companies have suspended their operations.
Oil Prices Rise
Following the news of the attacks, global energy markets reacted swiftly. International oil prices reportedly rose by approximately 8% in a short time, with some transactions exceeding $100 per barrel.
Analysts state that if the security risk in the Gulf persists, further disruptions could occur on this route, through which a large portion of oil and LNG shipments pass, potentially leading to even greater fluctuations in the global energy market.
