At the Bitcoin 2025 conference, New York Mayor Eric Adams continued to express support for the cryptocurrency industry, calling for the elimination of the BitLicense and the issuance of Bitcoin bonds in the city.
“New York is the state of empires, and we do not destroy empires — we build them. Come back to New York, where you will not be attacked or criminalized,” Adams said.
Eric AdamsHe also emphasized the goal of making New York the “global crypto capital” after hosting the New York Crypto Summit and establishing a digital asset advisory council to attract investment and jobs.
Adams received his first 3 salaries in Bitcoin and Ethereum, and stated that the city will apply blockchain for birth certificates, fines, and taxes.
BitLicense, launched in 2015, is a controversial license with costs that can reach up to 100,000 USD, which is said to hinder innovation in the crypto space in this state.
