Polkadot DAO recently approved a decision to set a hard limit of (supply cap) on the total number of DOT coins — 2.1 billion.
Previously, the issuance of tokens was practically unlimited, which could create inflationary pressure. The new limit makes DOT a "rare" asset, and this could become a strong fundamental driver for growth.
Also, the analyses suggest that changes in tokenomics + technical upgrades to the network ( part of Polkadot 2.0) may push the price up in the future.
