I saw a comment by Liu Cixin about blockchain that was quite shocking.

He said he’s never seen anything like Bitcoin in science fiction novels—this is a rare case where technology has outpaced sci-fi.

It does make sense when you think about it. Humans landing on the moon was written about endlessly by sci-fi authors, so when it actually happened, it didn’t seem so mysterious. But blockchain? It appeared out of nowhere. No foreshadowing, no buildup.

With all the imagination sci-fi writers have, why did no one come up with this decentralized ledger system in advance? Maybe because it’s too counterintuitive—it doesn’t require a central authority, yet it enables strangers around the world to establish trust.

This makes me curious: what will be the next technology like this? Could it be something in a direction we can’t even imagine yet?

Liu Cixin's words are indeed incredible; the idea that technology surpasses imagination is truly unbelievable.

Liu Cixin's words are spot on; blockchain is indeed the overlooked fish in the sci-fi and literary renaissance. The next black swan technology is probably also quietly being born in some underground room.

Liu Cixin's words are spot on; I really didn't expect it to be such a reverse crushing. Seriously, something like Bitcoin would actually seem unreasonable in science fiction, yet it happened in reality. Is it a bankruptcy of imagination or limited cognition? Where is the next black swan like this? That's the crazy part about Web3—what defies common sense often becomes the truth. So we're still in a blind spot now; the things we can't see have often already arrived.

Damn, this viewpoint is incredible. Technology has really surpassed science fiction at this point. Blockchain is indeed bizarre. Unlike other inventions that have an evolutionary process, it just got forcefully created out of nowhere. What will the next black swan technology be? Maybe we can’t even imagine it right now. By the way, does Liu Cixin really think so highly of blockchain? I feel like he used to criticize the crypto space before. The most mind-blowing part is that line—trust without a central authority. That really goes against human logic; no wonder writers didn’t see it coming.
