Today I opened a short position on ETH at 3180, with a stop loss set at 3219. As soon as I placed the order, I got stopped out. After calming down, I re-entered a short position at a similar level and managed to make back some of the loss.

But I still feel uneasy—clearly, I got the trend direction right, but didn’t make much profit in the end. I’m wondering if maybe my stop loss was set too tight? But if I widen the stop loss, the risk-reward ratio starts to look really bad, which feels like a dilemma.

I’d like to ask fellow contract traders: when you get stopped out right after opening a position, how do you usually handle it? Do you adjust your stop loss strategy, or do you have other ways to deal with it?

Getting stopped out is really something else—it means your positioning is way too rigid.

Getting stopped out once and then calmly re-entering—that's some solid mentality. But the issue isn't about how wide your stop-loss is; it's that you didn't actually catch the real bottom. How about trying to enter in batches? You can't become successful overnight.

Getting liquidated once and still being able to calmly try again—that's a great mindset. But the real issue actually lies in your position size. Instead of worrying about stop-loss range, it's better to reduce your order size first.
