Tether Reports Over $10 Billion USD Profit in 2025, Gold Reserves Surpass $17 Billion USD
Tether – the largest issuer of the USDT stablecoin – closed 2025 with a net profit exceeding $10 billion, according to the Q4 audited report signed and verified by BDO Italy. This result was driven by strong growth in USDT supply along with expanded investments in U.S. government bonds and gold.\nBy the end of the year, Tether held $6.3 billion in reserves, surpassing the $186.5 billion liability related to issued tokens, creating a significant safety buffer. Over the past year, the circulating supply of USDT increased by $50 billion, bringing the total to over $186 billion – reinforcing its position as the largest “digital dollar” in the market.\nThe U.S. Treasury bond portfolio continued to expand robustly. Tether now holds $122 billion in direct bonds and $141 billion including overnight reverse repo agreements. This scale places the company among the largest holders of U.S. government debt worldwide.\nAdditionally, Tether maintains substantial allocations in gold and Bitcoin, valued at $17.4 billion and $8.4 billion respectively. The company states it is purchasing physical gold at a rate of up to two tons per week, equivalent to over $1 billion per month according to recent estimates. Besides assets backing USDT, Tether’s separate investment portfolio is valued at approximately $20 billion.\nManagement emphasized that with record USDT issuance, reserves exceeding liabilities by billions of dollars, and high exposure to U.S. bonds, Tether enters 2026 with one of the strongest balance sheets globally.\nIn the context of increasing stablecoin demand, Tether is also strengthening its strategy in the U.S. market. The company recently launched USAT – a stablecoin designed specifically for the U.S. market – in partnership with the crypto bank Anchorage Digital, to meet increasingly stringent regulatory compliance standards.\nThe 2025 results show that Tether not only expanded its issuance scale but also repositioned itself as a global financial organization with a diversified asset structure and high reserves, amid a wave of broader stablecoin adoption.
