The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it is negotiating the location of talks with the United States
On February 3rd, local time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stated, “The negotiation plan has been made, and it is expected to take place in the coming days. Currently, consultations are underway to determine the negotiation location. Once confirmed, it will be announced immediately.” Kanaani added, “In principle, the location and timing of the talks are not complicated issues; Turkey, Oman, and some other countries in the region have all expressed willingness to host the talks, which is very valuable to us.” According to a reporter from CCTV, on the 2nd local time, two sources said that U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian are expected to meet in Istanbul, Turkey, on February 6th (this Friday) to discuss a “possible nuclear agreement.” Additionally, on the 3rd, informed sources revealed that Iran has requested to change the location and format of the negotiations with the U.S. on the 6th, shifting the venue from Istanbul, Turkey, to Oman, a Gulf country, and hopes to hold the talks in a bilateral format. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded that although Iran has requested adjustments to the location and format of the talks, negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are still scheduled to take place this week.
