A statement from Dr. Zhang Haimin of Peking Union Medical College Hospital: "A person's spirit can be rebuilt. It relies on long periods of extreme solitude, ample sleep, not being influenced by others' definitions and prejudices, extensive reading, intense focus, and maintaining regular meals and sleep. Do not accept any negation, do not accept any rebuttal. Then you will cultivate a strong inner self!" There are always moments in life when we are worn down by reality, perhaps because others' disapproval makes you doubt yourself, or because trivial matters exhaust you, as if the fire inside your heart is gradually weakening. But in fact, the spirit is never truly gone; it simply needs us to pause and rebuild it in the right way. This nourishment does not depend on others' gifts but is entirely managed by your own mindful effort. The first step to restoring your spirit is to 'subtract' from life—detach yourself from external disturbances. Extreme solitude is not loneliness but a space for the soul to find peace, free from ineffective social interactions, unconcerned with others' opinions, just conversing with yourself. At this moment, you'll realize that those evaluations that once caused anxiety and prejudices that led to confusion do not define you. By not being swayed by external voices and rejecting arbitrary negation and rebuttal, you build a barrier around your heart, blocking out external noise and allowing your true inner thoughts to become clearer. Adequate sleep and a regular routine are the foundation for restoring your spirit. Staying up late and sleeping late can make your emotions fragile; skipping meals and overeating can drain your energy. These seemingly small habits quietly deplete our state of being. Eating on time replenishes your body’s energy; sleeping regularly allows your tired body and mind to recover. When your body is in a comfortable state, your emotions stabilize, and you have the energy to face life's challenges. Just as plants need sunlight and water to grow, our spirit also needs these simple daily nourishments to gradually regain vitality. Extensive reading and intense focus are ways to recharge your spirit. Reading is not just flipping through pages but seeking strength in others' wisdom, seeing different lives through words, learning how to handle difficulties through stories. Unconsciously, your horizons expand, and your mindset becomes more composed. Intense focus involves immersing yourself in one task—perhaps cooking a meal carefully or concentrating on completing a project. When you give your full attention, worries are temporarily set aside, and a sense of achievement gradually accumulates. The sense of control brought by this focus will make you believe in yourself again, and your spirit will gradually lift. The process of restoring your spirit is like nurturing a seedling—requiring patience and heartfelt care. It is not achieved through sudden enlightenment but through long-term self-care—finding yourself in solitude, stabilizing your state through routine, and accumulating strength through reading and focus. So, when you are no longer swayed by external influences, no longer easily doubt yourself, and learn to take good care of your body and mind, you will find that the fire inside your heart has reignited. This time, it will no longer be easily extinguished by the wind because you have cultivated a strong inner self capable of withstanding life's storms.
